Autumn Knitting and the Colors of Autumn
Monday, December 1, 2008 at 7:25PM Hot ovaltine, Silk Garden Sock and Rowan Felted Tweed: a recipe for happy:
This year, I've been so wrapped up in dyeing and spinning that I've gone back to my knitting roots. I've really been enjoying the beautiful simplicity of basic stockinette socks, knit from the toe-up with amazing colors. And the nubby texture of a tweedy garter stitch shawl, something that will drape and swing and keep me just-warm-enough during our not-all-that-cold autumn evenings.
I love the fall. It's my favorite season. Some might argue that the Bay Area doesn't have seasons, and it's true that we don't have quite as many as SOME places, but there's definitely a time, somewhere around the middle of October, when the smell of the air changes and takes on a crispness. Most days, our autmn skies are a clear, vibrant blue, with intermittent trees (probably visitors from places with weather) changing to brilliant red and orange and those trees that know better keeping their bright green foliage.
It looks a little something like this:
8 ounces of Columbia-Dorset blend wool top, in autumn orange and brown, brilliant sky blue, and foliage green.
